Deep within the rainforests of the Darien Gap, a small organic cacao association of farmers grows five varieties of trinitario and criollo cacao. We work with these farmers directly, visit them yearly, and support them in their quest to live a dignified life with fair trade prices. They are transparent partners, friends, and that is an incredible relationship to cultivate in the supply chain. These relationships matter, they help you, our delicious fans, as year after year we are able to procure the purest, most unadulterated cacao possible.

We inspect every single micro-lot by hand before approving these for production so these nibs can reach your doorstep and you can be absolutely thrilled and jazzed with the end product. Did I mention that cacao nibs are incredibly good for you, in a myriad of special ways?

Process: Roasted, shelled, packed and shipped fresh, these cacao nibs are a medley of vibrant colors, rich hues showing the genetic diversity of the cacao from this region of Colombia.


Prevention: Cacao is high in antioxidants, with one study showing over a 60% reduction in repeat incidence of stroke (if you had a stroke previously) for dark chocolate and cacao nib consumers that ate a serving of cacao or dark chocolate (approx. 1 oz) at least 3 times a week. Lower rates of heart disease for the Kuna Yala of Panama and Colombia first signaled this connection between cacao and reduced stroke, that extends to heart disease, and atherosclerosis. Cacao's high level of antioxidants are linked to lower rates of cancer as well, with research ongoing. 

Essential nutrients to keep you humming - Magnesium, iron and manganese, micronutrients and minerals essential for the healthy functioning of the body and cellular function, as well as anandamide, nature's "love chemical" and theobromine, which is a stimulant, and vasodilator.

Cacao is rich in fiber aiding a healthy biome and digestive system, and cacao, although high in saturated fat, does not contain cholesterol. In our studies we have seen that cacao as compared to chocolate also functions as a more powerful stimulant because of more minimal processing.
